A recent poll shows that Thai residents are against the former Prime Minister's proposal to legalize online gambling and cryptocurrency activities. The ex-PM argued that legalizing online gambling could significantly boost the country's revenue, estimating an annual income of approximately $2.89 billion. Despite the potential economic benefits, the public remains skeptical. The Thai government has already approved a draft law to regulate online gambling and casinos, aiming to establish them as major revenue generators. However, underground gaming and gambling will continue to be illegal, with offenders facing prosecution. Currently, the government oversees state-controlled horse races and the national lottery, but soccer betting and other forms of underground gambling are widespread. The government hopes to capitalize on these activities to generate substantial revenue.
